Tips in Looking for a Clinician
Do your research. Ask for recommendations.
Check directories (like Psychology Today) as well as review clinician’s websites.
Verify insurance coverage (in-network/out-of-network) and fees.
Look at credentials, areas of experience and any specialties.
Consider office locations (commute time) and options for telehealth.
Reach out to providers regarding availability.
Ask for the option of a brief phone consult (15 minute phone call to “meet” and ask questions).
Decide upon a clinician that seems to be the best “fit”. And remember that throughout therapy you can continue to assess “fit.”
In addition to therapy services, Atlas is proud to offer sliding scale, letter writing services for transgender and nonbinary individuals seeking gender-affirming surgery.
If you decide you would like to begin with us….
Schedule your first appointment
Please contact us at 773-270-3795 or submit a form on our website to set up an appointment.
We encourage you to read our bios and pick one that aligns with the style and background you are looking for. We will have you fill out some electronic paperwork about your experiences to make sure we’re a good fit. We will also gather your insurance information so we can check on your benefits and let you know the cost of treatment. Lastly, we will set up an appointment that works with your schedule.
Attend your first appointment
At our first appointment, we will review paperwork and policies so we can be transparent about the process. The first appointment will focus on getting to know you and setting up goals for treatment. You will also learn more about your therapist’s approach to your goals and discuss how they will be measured throughout treatment. At the end of session, we will check in and see how you felt about the first appointment and either set up another appointment or discuss outside referrals that might be a better fit.
Move forward with treatment
If you feel comfortable with your therapist, you will set up an ongoing appointment with them. You will also discuss how often you will meet in order to reach your goals, and how the therapist can best support you.
Once you start meeting with your therapist, you can continue to check in about how the process is going. We aim to make therapy a collaborative, transparent process and welcome your input along the way. We will periodically check in about tracking goals to make sure things are moving in the right direction.
